The tender EC-GROW/2025/OP/0074 published by the European Commission was awarded to the following consortium.
AISICO – (Test house and notified body)
BAST – (German Road Administration and Federal Research Institute)
CEStra-Zert – (German Technical Consulting Company)
Politecnico di Milano – (Italian Scientific-Technological University)
Goal of the project
To compile the basic information for the upcoming revision of EN 1317 (part of 'Milestone 0' in the Technical Acquis Process) until the end of 2026.
What is the motivation (background)?
The Construction Products Regulation (CPR) has been revised and applies to construction products covered by the revised harmonised standards.
This also applies to RRS (Road Restraint Systems), as these are considered construction products. Consequently, the harmonised standard EN 1317-5 and, by extension, all associated standards (other parts of EN 1317) must be revised and adapted to the new Construction Products Regulation. Currently, the standard EN 1317-5 sets out the requirements for RRS.
What is it all about?
The VERSA project begins with the systematic collection and initial analysis of all information related to the existing technical, regulatory, and tendering requirements established by road safety authorities across EU Member States, EEA countries, Switzerland, and Turkey. In parallel, the project also examines the expected evolution of these requirements, analysing the technical and regulatory provisions that national authorities plan to introduce within the next five to ten years, together with any additional emerging needs.
What is happening in the EU VERSA project?
The necessary information is gathered through online surveys. Although each survey is primarily aimed at specific organisations, all RRS stakeholders are invited to take part. All feedback will be taken into account.
Please pass on these login details to other RRS experts who can make a valuable contribution to the questions in the survey for a specific country. Thank you.
The surveys currently underway can be found here:
1. Online survey on current and future national requirements and needs regarding RRS in the 32 countries concerned.
Questionnaire on Choosing and Tendering of Road Restraint Systems.
Participation is possible until 31 July 2026.
Password: Restraint_26!
2. Online survey on research activities, guidelines and studies regarding RRS in the 32 countries concerned.
Questionnaire on computational modelling, vehicle fleet and mobility trends with regard to Road Restraint Systems.
Still in development – coming soon
